PROCEDURE
LASER HAIR REMOVAL IN RIGA

Professional laser hair removal for the face and body
Laser hair removal is an effective method for long-term reduction of unwanted hair. At BABOR Beauty Spa, laser hair removal treatments in Riga are performed using the powerful Primelase Excellence 810 nm diode laser, with treatment parameters individually adjusted according to skin phototype, hair characteristics and the treatment area.
Laser energy targets the hair follicle and is absorbed by melanin, the pigment contained in the hair. As the energy is converted into heat, it thermally affects the hair follicle, reducing its ability to produce new hair.
Laser hair removal can be performed on various areas of the face and body, including the upper lip, chin, underarms, arms, bikini and Brazilian areas, legs, back and other areas.
How does laser hair removal work?
Hair grows in several different stages. Laser hair removal is most effective on hairs that are in the active growth or anagen phase, when the hair is connected to the follicle and contains sufficient melanin.
Because not all hairs are in the same growth phase at the same time, it is not possible to target all hair in a single treatment. For this reason, laser hair removal is performed as a course of treatments at appropriate intervals.
Each subsequent treatment targets another group of hairs that has entered the active growth phase. Over the course of treatments, the amount of hair gradually decreases, while the remaining hairs may become finer and grow more slowly.

Laser hair removal with the Primelase Excellence 810 nm diode laser
At BABOR Beauty Spa, we use the professional Primelase Excellence 810 nm diode laser system for laser hair removal. The 810 nm wavelength is used for laser hair removal because laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the hair, allowing targeted thermal action on the hair follicle.
The Primelase Excellence 810 nm applicator has a maximum peak laser power of 4800 W. Its high power enables the required energy to be delivered within a short pulse, while adjustable treatment parameters allow the specialist to adapt the treatment to different skin phototypes, hair characteristics and body areas.
The system offers a wide range of adjustable pulse durations and can operate in both static and dynamic modes. This allows an appropriate treatment technique to be selected for both small, precise areas and larger body areas.
The Crystal Freeze contact cooling system cools the surface of the skin during treatment, helping to protect the epidermis and improve comfort.
The high power, adjustable parameters and effective cooling of Primelase Excellence allow fast and individually tailored laser hair removal for different areas of the face and body.
Benefits of laser hair removal
• Long-term reduction of unwanted hair
• Hair gradually becomes sparser and finer
• Suitable for both small and large treatment areas
• Reduces the need for regular shaving, waxing or epilation
• Contact cooling helps improve comfort during treatment
• Usually does not require a prolonged recovery period
• As hair growth decreases, the occurrence of ingrown hairs may also be reduced
How many laser hair removal treatments are needed?
A course of treatments is required to achieve a noticeable reduction in hair growth. Most commonly, approximately 6–10 treatments are required, although the exact number varies from person to person.
The number of treatments is influenced by hair colour, thickness and density, skin phototype, treatment area, the individual hair growth cycle and hormonal factors.
Different areas of the body may respond differently to laser hair removal. Hormone-sensitive areas, such as the face, may sometimes require a longer course of treatments.
After the initial course, occasional maintenance treatments may be required over time.
What happens during a laser hair removal treatment?
Before treatment, the specialist assesses the skin phototype, hair characteristics and treatment area and selects appropriate laser parameters.
During the procedure, the applicator is moved across the treatment area while delivering controlled laser pulses. Depending on the area and parameters used, you may experience warmth, mild tingling or brief sensations of heat. The contact cooling system helps reduce discomfort during treatment.
Treatment time depends on the size of the area. Small areas can be treated relatively quickly, while larger body areas require more time.
Temporary redness or increased skin sensitivity may occur after treatment and usually gradually subsides.
Laser hair removal treatment areas
Laser hair removal can be performed on various areas of the face and body:
• Upper lip
• Chin and other facial areas
• Underarms
• Arms and forearms
• Bikini area
• Brazilian/deep bikini
• Lower legs
• Full legs
• Back
• Abdomen and other body areas
Several areas can be combined during one appointment.
Laser hair removal results
Results develop gradually throughout the course of treatments. Following a treatment, the targeted hairs gradually shed, while subsequent sessions target hairs that have entered the active growth phase.
Hair density gradually decreases throughout the course. The extent of the result varies between individuals and depends on the treatment area, hair characteristics, skin phototype, hormonal factors and treatment consistency.
The effectiveness of laser hair removal depends significantly on the amount of melanin in the hair. Very light hair contains little pigment, so the laser response may be considerably weaker. Grey hair contains no melanin and therefore does not respond to 810 nm diode laser hair removal.
How should I prepare for laser hair removal?
Before treatment, hair in the treatment area should be shaved according to the specialist's instructions.
Before and during a course of laser hair removal, methods that remove the hair from the root — such as waxing, epilating or tweezing — should be avoided. The hair follicle needs to remain intact for the laser to target it.
Intense sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided before treatment. Laser hair removal should not be performed on sunburned or freshly and intensely tanned skin.
The treatment area should be clean on the day of the procedure. The specialist should be informed about any medications being taken and any significant changes in health or skin condition.
When should laser hair removal not be performed?
Suitability for treatment is assessed individually. Laser hair removal may need to be postponed or avoided if there is an active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, open wounds, active herpes infection, sunburn or a recent intense tan.
Certain photosensitising medications, dermatological conditions and other health conditions may also affect suitability for treatment.
We do not perform laser hair removal during pregnancy. Before treatment, the specialist should be informed about medications and any relevant changes in health or skin condition.

Frequently asked question
Sensations vary from person to person and between treatment areas. During treatment, you may feel warmth, mild tingling or brief pulses of heat. The Primelase Crystal Freeze contact cooling system helps reduce discomfort during the procedure.
Hair does not disappear immediately after treatment. Treated hairs gradually loosen and shed over the following days and weeks. During this period, it may appear that the hair is continuing to grow, although it is gradually being released from the follicle.
The aim of laser hair removal is long-term reduction of unwanted hair. It does not guarantee that no hair will ever grow again in the treated area. Hair growth can be influenced by hormonal and other changes in the body, so occasional maintenance treatments may be needed over time after the initial course.
As the amount of hair and the need for regular shaving or waxing decrease, the occurrence of ingrown hairs may also be reduced. Results vary between individuals.
Yes, but the condition of the skin and the presence of a tan must be considered. Treatment should not be performed on sunburned or freshly and intensely tanned skin. The specialist's recommendations regarding sun exposure and SPF protection should be followed before and after treatment.
Laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the hair. Very light hair contains little melanin, so the effectiveness of laser hair removal may be lower. Grey hair contains no melanin and therefore does not respond to laser hair removal.
Yes. Hair can be shaved between treatments. Waxing, epilating and tweezing should be avoided because the hair follicle needs to remain intact during a course of laser hair removal.
